HOW TO CORRECT THE NAME OF A LOCALITY

The process for correcting a surname and the name of a locality is the same. First go to the individual where the location needs to change, then enter the name correctly.

While the steps for correcting a locality are the same as correcting the name, there are other things to consider.

As was mentioned in the first data-entry lesson, you must be consistent in entering place names and individuals' names into the computer. If you enter an individual both as Bettyanne and Betty Anne, the computer will consider the names as belonging to two different people. If you enter a county simply as Monterey, and then later as Monterey County, and another time as Monterey Co., the computer will deal with the entries as three different places.
