PEDIGREE CHARTS
The reports filed behind the first five colored (or beige) tabs act as guides to all of the family groups in your Family History. Since thousands of names are added to the Family History, many people are likely to have the same names, so the computer automatically assigns a unique RIN (Record ID Number) to each person. (The RIN number is printed to the right of the individual's name.) If you click the computer screen icon below, you will see Herman Anterspoika Kamsula as RIN 21.
Also, as people are connected to families, a unique MRIN (Marriage Record ID Number) is assigned to each family. This computer assigned number corresponds to what genealogists call the Family Group Record number. Notice in the PAF and AncestralQuest example shown when you click the computer screen icon below, that Herman Anterspoika Kamsula was MRIN 8.
Therefore, if I go to numbered tab 8 I should find the family of Herman Kampsula. The families in your notebook should be filed in numerical order according to their Family Group Record [MRIN #]. Don't worry if one family is MRIN 8 and the next one is 1, and the next is 130. Let the computer keep track of those numbers. It is easy enough to just read the MRIN spine label and tell which notebook you will find the proper family group. See the sample on page 2 Click here. Click your back button to return here if you revisit page 2.
