Backing Up PAF Files
After you have spent so much time entering information on your family, you will want to learn to make up a backup. The backup file is a .zip file that not only backs up the information, but compresses it. Click on the word FILE across the top of PAF and scroll down to BACKUP as shown below.
Since I set my preferences to do my backups in the same folder as my original file, the Local Disk (C:) window opened up showing me this is where it would put the backup. All I would do is click on the word BACKUP to the right of the file name and it would back up in seconds. It is a good idea, however, to put your backups on another drive, or a floppy disk, or a thumb drive, or send it to a friend to keep, or store somewhere online, in case your hard drive ever crashes. It is just a matter of time and all of them eventually do crash. You won't be able to read a backup file, without restoring it. If you try to restore it on the same file as you had the original file on, it will replace the one that is currently there with the backup. Therefore, you may want to give the backup a new name, so it won't accidently erase another working file.
