Family History Library Catalog

The goals you have set for yourself should be aligned to the locations in which your ancestors resided during the time period of your goal.

Having determined the location of your ancestors, the FHLC should be searched for original records to assist in the research. If you use the computer version of the FHLC in the Center, and you have a film number or fiche number on the screen in front of you, highlight the film number you are interested in and strike the Enter key. The FHLC will provide you with a list of centers where that film has been sent on indefinite loan. Happily, you may just find that it is already at your local center.

The Monterey California Family History Center also has its own electronic catalog that lists available resources. Soon it may be available online, so you can see if resources are there before you come. Don't look for it yet, as it is just being investigated (November 2003). Currently, it is best to use the card catalog in the book reading room.
