This exercise will show you a method of capturing source information from the Family History Library Catalog on line as well as from a computer at a local Family History Center, then transfer it to your PAF data file.

If other libraries and repositories have their catalog file on the computer, they will have the ability to capture the source on a diskette. If they do, it can be transferred in similar manner.

The easiest way to do this while you are on line is to already have your PAF program running:

  • minimize the program by clicking on the - button in the upper right corner
  • go to the Family History Library Catalog on the Internet
  • find the resource you want as listed in the instructions in this lesson
  • use your mouse to highlight the area you want to copy to notes
  • use the copy and paste options in Windows <Ctrl + C> to copy and <Ctrl + V> to paste—after you have highlighted the area, hold down the Ctrl key and strike the C key
  • click back to PAF
  • go to the individual you want
  • go into the notes field as taught in lesson 9
  • hold down the Ctrl key and strike the V key when you have the cursor in the place where the note should be entered

This requires a cut and paste operation for each entry. There is another method for handling many entries at once.
