SUPPLEMENTAL
COMPUTER CHECKLIST #10
The assignment was to explain how you could use the Family History Library Catalog to obtain the complete citation for a film or book in the library, copy it to a disk file, bring it up into a word processor which can read ASCII or .txt files (or WordPad on your Accessories List), and then cut and paste it to your notes fields and source fields of your computer program.
Documenting the sources of where you found information on Great-grandmother Susie is one of the most ignored functions of beginning genealogists. When you find a relative's name in some records that has been compiled and there are no sources cited, ask yourself these questions, "Where did the compiler (person who compiled the records) get the information?," "Did someone make it up?," "Is it family rumor or tradition?"
Sources are needed for credibility.
