TIPS FOR WORKING WITH YOUR COMPUTER
Turn to page 10-9 in your textbook and follow the instructions there for locating source materials in the FHLC. Assignment 3 on page 10-11 of your textbook, requests that you locate sources for your own family. Today we are going to practice sources together to make sure you are able to do this assignment with ease. It is possible to have your word processing program (such as WORD or WordPERFECT) working in Windows and also work on the Internet while toggling back and forth between the two functions.
Bring up your word processing program to a blank screen. If you need to "minimize" the screen to allow you to start your Internet program, just click on the box with the - sign in it in the upper right hand corner of your screen.
Now start your Internet program. You'll notice that your word processing program is listed in a box in the bottom navigation bar. When you want it to come up again just click on it even when you are in your other programs.
This is also true of your Internet program. While you are in your Internet program, you can click on the "Start" button at the bottom of your screen and turn on your word processing program. Then you can "cut and paste" instructions or comments from your Internet lesson to your word processor, move into another web site, report what is happening to your instructor back in your word processing program, and later return to your lesson for more instruction. It allows for great flexibility among programs.
