Currently, there are more than 2,100 rolls of microfilm with passports
(and indices), generally dating before 1925. They are available
at the Family History Library and through its Family History Centers,
or from the National Archives. For later dates, contact the Passport
Office, Department of State, 1425 K St. N.W., Washington, DC 20520.
Each passport is numbered and bound in volumes, chronologically,
based on the date issued. However, a set of card indices provides
easy access to the documents. Indices cover 1860-1880, 1881-1906,
and 1906-1925. They are arranged in alphabetical groups by the first
few letters of the surname, such as VAR-VAZ, interfiled by date
of passport.
