OFFICIAL ROSTERS
The adjutant general’s office for each state has records of the state militia and of troops raised by the state for federal service. Sometimes the records may have been transferred to the state archives. The records generally consist of muster-in rolls (enlistments) and muster-out rolls (discharges). The Family History Library has microfilm copies of original rolls of the states of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia.
