LINEAGE SOCIETIES
Once youve traced an ancestor to
a specific conflict, you may want to explore the history of that
conflict by getting with people whose ancestors also fought in that
conflict. These organized groups are called Lineage Societies.
Examples of these would be: Daughters of the American Revolution
(DAR), Sons of the American Revolution, Sons of Union Veterans of
the Civil War, etc.
Military records can be some of the
most rewarding you will ever look at if they help you find the vital
information you need on one of your ancestors. Millions of records
are intact and waiting for you to discover them.
For your last question in this lesson,
the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) are an example of
a 1) Militant womans militia, 2) a lineage society, or 3) a record
repository.
