PROPER CITATION
1804 BURIAL: "Ansearchin News" Periodical, Volume 2,
No. 4, 1982, page 25, Bible Record of the James Family, copy available
at the Monterey, California, FHC:
A burial record for Mary James, wife of Tom James, who died in
1804.
COMPARING DIFFERENT CITATION FORMATS
Due to requests from students about citation methods, I would like
to post a couple of examples from various formats. Because professional
researcher’s are paid by the time they spend performing research,
writing and editing reports, and completing data entry work in their
genealogy computer program, this does not leave the time to put
together as extensive a citation as might be desired in a research
publication. Click on each example to see what might be found in
a National Genealogical Society publication (NGS), a Silicon Valley
Computer User’s Group publication (SVPAF), a citation using
Mr. Lackey’s format which Elizabeth Shown Mills elaborated
upon (LACKEY), and a researcher's method (given the name Karen). Students may use any format
as long as they remain consistent throughout their project.

Karen tended to break down her citations as follows:
Year EVENT: [County],
[State or Province],
[County or Shire, Townland],
[Town, Township, City],
[Military District, Waterway, Cemetery, Hospital],
Title of a Published Book in Upper and Lower Case OR Subject Title
of a Record Collection,
Author of published book
Publisher,
Publication date
Call #, page no.
Hopefully, you will select a method that will help make your work easier as well.
