Organizing for Success (Cont.)
The next spine would also say "Brown Family History," then
Family Group Records 36-(to whatever other number would comfortably fit in that binder.)
One Family Group Record for every marriage in your
file. Each marriage will have different amounts of materials to store, so the spine needs to be
labeled after you have placed materials into the binder.
As you gather more materials on your family, this slip-in-and-out spine cover allows you to change information very quickly. These covered binders are also very easy to wipe off after the great deal of handling they receive.
Filing pages in numerical order is much faster than filing families (often with duplicate surnames and given names) in alphabetical order. As the Chapter 6 reading assignment in your
syllabus indicates, each Family Group Record acts as a cross-index to other pages in the notebook, and the Pedigree Chart acts as a virtual Table of Contents because of the cross-referenced numbers printed on them.
This printing of the Family Group Record Number is automatically done in PAF, Ancestral Quest, Legacy, and RootsMagic.
Go to www.FileYourPapers.com for an updated version of how to set the preferences, tools, or print options from the program you have selected. Also see filing done using commercial tabs, and leatherette notebooks for a nice finished touch. Allow about 30 to 40 seconds to upload as the site is image heavy. |
