CONCLUSION
We have now concluded our lesson on printing in general and the preferences menus for the Reunion and FamilyTreeMaker programs for MAC. Going online to the various product's sites is another more effective way of studying these various programs.
It is highly recommended that students decide on their specific genealogy computer software program to use this semester by the end of this week. Then the student should focus on the online or CD training available for the selected program alone. For example, if you want to learn how to print in:
- Ancestral Quest, go to the www.ancquest.com web site and click on the word "Video" to learn how to use any options you do not now understand. All of their training is online and well done.
- Legacy, go to the www.legacyfamilytree.com web site and scroll down until you see the "Legacy Family Tree Video Training Series - Vol 2 (A $39.80 value for $32.95.) The presentation on Creating & Sharing Perfect Reports is excellent. It is an audio/video presentation you can stop at any time and gives you some wonderful tips and tricks for printing wonderful reports. That presentation alone is 55 minutes long. But the video also contains Tagging and Searching Made Easy; Insider's Guide to Legacy: Tips & Tricks; and Picturing Your Legacy: Working with Digitial Pictures in Legacy. Over four hours of information to become a master of this program. There is a Vol. 1 also available for $49.75 on sale now for $32.95 you might enjoy as well. I have found them excellent to use. Legacy also has a Training center on the top menu buttons. There is an option to preview Training Videos, but only a portion of the complete lessons are given. There are also brand-new training items. ALSO you can register for a free Webinar on September 7, 2011 where Geoff will teach you had to add a Census Record and show you various options. You must register but then you can watch the training online. Watching and listening live gives you the advantage of discounts on products, and upgrade specials as well as "door prizes."
- RootsMagic offers free Webinar training to their users at www.rootsmagic.com/Webinars. They are downloadable for Windows Media Player, iTunes, and most other media players. They also make their past webinars available on CD. Be sure to notice #24 "Running RootsMagic on a Mac recorded 29 August 2011. Specific resources for printing would be found in webinar #9 Creating Custom Reports with Roots Magic, #12 Lists and Reports in RootsMagic, #17 Creating and Printing Wallcharts with RootsMagic. Others are probably helpful as well, but I haven't had time to view them all as yet.
- Family Tree Maker 2011 has a free webinar training on Family Tree Maker 2011 Charts and Reports that is appropriate for this lesson where you can learn to design and print charts, run effectie reports, discover what print functionalities are on each workspace, create individual and family slide shows, and more. Those who are subscribers, and visitors, can click on "Learning Center," then go down to Webinars, and find the Family Tree Maker presentations you desire to study. Go to www.ancestry.com and see what is available for the Mac user here as well.
This series of presentation will stop comparing the different programs after next week, and focus the rest of the course on documentation, evidence analysis, repositories, and sources that will particulary work with the research processes to take your family back in time to the 1850s. |
