GENEALOGY SOFTWARE PROGRAMS (cont.)

You have been given several Your Turn assignments in this lesson to experiment and record your findings with a new genealogy computer software program you are using in this class. Last week you were provided with a web site for downloading a free copy of the Personal Ancestral File (PAF) program.

In this lesson, information will be provided on how to download a free standard version copy of Legacy (or the full version of the program at a very reasonable price). Go to www.legacyfamilytree.com and notice the "FREE! Download Now" button as illustrated in the image below. Scroll down the page to read the other options.

You should then be able to see the difference using at least three different software programs. Now as you read Chapter 3 in The Complete Beginner's Guide to Genealogy, the Internet, and Your Genealogy Computer Program, you should be able to compare some of the different features, and determine why each feature is helpful. PAF users will want to compare the responses you give to various answers with information provided in last week's and this week's online lessons.

This lesson covers at least two to three hours of experimentation on the PAF, Ancestral Quest, and Legacy programs, so let's get started.  At the end, keep track of any questions you might have that you can bring up in our discussion areas at the class homepage.

Remember, both Ancestral Quest and Legacy web sites provide online training video classes that are much more extensive than what can be taught here. Look at their web sites for details.
