SUPPLEMENTAL
COMPUTER CHECKLIST #11
Can you explain how you could export a GEDCOM files from your computer to share with other files? First of all each genealogy computer program uses a different term for making these files. PAF would have the information under FILE, GEDCOM, while Family Tree Maker would have it under FILE, EXPORT, GEDCOM. If you are using PAF, you might want to select a PAF GEDCOM to export to. If you are using any other kind of computer program, use the basic 5.5 GEDCOM format to submit information.
The Personal Ancestral File 5 program uses a menu driven approach to help select those names that you want to submit. Sometimes you want to contribute your complete file, but other times you only want to send in a partial file.
There are two ways to access the GEDCOM export screen:
- click the File option on the main menu bar and select Export
- click the icon that looks like a disk with an arrow pointing out (
