While traveling in Cologne, Germany, last year,
we were taken out to a tourist area for the locals where original
homes were gathered from all over the country with historic plaques
about where the home had originated, the family who had lived there,
and other interesting pieces of information. I was very interested
in this hair decoration made from the hair of deceased family members.
This might work well for DNA studies.

Notice the information available in this school book that lists
the students in a German school.

Here we visited the school house and saw how the children learned
to write the German script.

Here was a windmill used to grind the grain in a windy area of
the country.

All over Germany people were gathering their folk history and their
family information and this is making it easier for immigrants to
be found. It was Americans going to visit the Mayflower. Sometimes
this ethnic information is found on line and eventually it will
be translated or we will learn how to read our ancestor’s
handwriting in order to obtain clues from their past. |
