The previous table, which appears as well on pages 9-23 and 9-24 of your syllabus is but a sampling of a few repositories you will use in your family history research. Generally these are the most common and you will need to know how they differ in their missions for gathering and retaining records.
If you are not personally acquainted with some of them, take the opportunity to visit them. Knowing the purposes of repositories will make you a better genealogist.
Would you be interested in visiting a federal archives and a major genealogical library as part of a field trip? The local Monterey County Genealogy Society (MoCoGenSo) regularly takes trips to these repositories. They meet the first Thursday evening of each month and can be contacted at www.mocogenso.org.
Well, this has been a pretty heavy reading lesson between the CD, and the textbook assignments. Let's relax a little bit and learn more about
vital record offices on the Internet. See the
websites suggested on page 9-28 of your syllabus and go online now to www.vitalchek.com that
also provides vital record offices' addresses.
Now you can go on to the supplemental genealogy
computer program checklist or move on to Chapter 10.
