Map Guide to the US Census

The Map Guide to the U.S. Census provides reproductions of each state against a background of the current county boundaries, and it shows you how they appeared during successive periods between 1790 and 1930. In addition, the front of the book provides a good overview of U.S. Territories. In some cases, it gives these state drawings in ten-year intervals, which is good as a location finder when tied into the actual census records.

Its only weakness is that is does not provide the changes that occurred between those ten-year intervals. That is understandable, however, because it has achieved its purpose as a quick guide to states and counties during each census year.

This book can be purchased from Heritage Quest. It is often available in college libraries, Family History Centers, and local genealogical societies.
