Options for Filtering Duplicate Individuals Lists

Notice the Option button at the bottom of the page for Reports and Chart by clicking on the screen below.

When you click on the Option button you can filter the type of matching you wish to do. For example, names with exact spelling. If you also click on the "Advanced..." button on the Duplicate Individuals Report Options window, the program will only match on the criteria that you provide. Explanations of the options follow. See the sample windows by clicking on the screen below.

— Include individuals with no Surnames  If you check this option, then all names that do not have a surname will be listed. This will increase the size of your list, but there are times when you will need these names to help solve family puzzles.

— Include individuals with no birth date  If you want to include individuals with no birth date as potential duplicates, check this box. Again, this option can increase the size of your list.

— Years between birth dates  Use 10 here if you suspect there might have been 1875 entered instead of 1885. Use 100 if you think the error might have been 1985 instead of 1885.

— Consider AFNs  If you have a number of individuals imported from Ancestral File (with Ancestral File Numbers, you can use this to possibly limit the number of potential duplicates found.

— Consider middle names  This will limit potential duplicates to people who have the same middle names or initials. (This may decrease the number of potential duplicates.)

— Consider parents  Considering parents when checking for duplicates is a good idea. There could be many "Karen Ann Kampsula" names within a database, especially if the family is large and the name "Karen Ann" is a favored family name. Therefore, when this option is checked, it will help reduce the duplicate names problem when the parents are considered.

— Combine notes
— Combine source citations
— Combine multimedia objects
— Confirm when Merge button pressed
— This four are used by the program during the merge process for the potential duplicates found.
