NOTE:  There are important matters about living individuals you should consider:

When you create your files, you will often be starting from living individuals (like yourself) and tracing back along ancestral lines. As you share information with others, directly as printed material or GEDCOM files or repositories on the Internet, you should keep in mind the confidentiality of information. Things such as mother maiden name and Social Security Number can be used in very devastating ways.

There are security measures you should know about your programs which may help you build your information for yourself but protect others as you process, export or print it. Click Help on the menu bar and look for terms relating to "security" or "confidential."

PAF includes measures as you create general notes:

  • If you want to keep a note confidential, type ~ as the first character of the paragraph.
  • If you want to print a note on reports, type ! as the first character.
